Within Reach is an exhibition celebrating the unique and diverse artistic voices of the 2024 Class of Undergraduate Visual Arts students at Columbia University and Barnard College. The title connotes both the burgeoning nature of these artists’ careers as well as the often intimate and introspective quality of their work. The exhibition is organized by Jacqueline Yu (CC’24) and Victoria Reshetnikov (CC’24), the latter of which is also featured in the show.

Within Reach is on view at the NYC Culture Club (185 Greenwich St, New York, NY 10006) from August 8th to September 8th, Wednesdays through Sundays from 12 - 7 PM. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, August 8th from 6 - 9 PM. It is free to visit.

Thandiwe Geneviève Scott is a writer, performer, and artist whose practice is grounded in multimedia experimentation and themes of identity. Drawing from Scott’s experiences with analog photography, the theories of Roland Barthes, and the sociocultural symbolism of hair (especially that of Black women), A Brush With Death seeks to pose the question: “what rises to the surface when we are simultaneously confronted by a visceral object with depth, texture, and scent, and an object which exists as a flattened representation of the former?”
